THE man killed in a single-vehicle crash in East Cork yesterday has been named by gardaí as Mark O'Brien from Douglas.
The 42-year-old deceased man is thought to have been driving in the Ballinwilling Strand area of Ballycotton early yesterday morning when his vehicle crashed into a wall.
He was discovered by a passer-by at around 9.45am, who alerted Gardaí to the incident.
Mr O'Brien, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was taken to Cork University Hospital, where a post-mortem will take place.
The road was closed to allow the Garda Forensic Collision Investigation team to carry out a technical examination at the scene, and local traffic diversions were put in place.
Now, Gardaí are trying to establish the man’s movements in the hours leading up to the incident and are appealing to anyone who might have any information to come forward.
Anyone who may have been travelling in the area yesterday morning is asked to contact Midleton Garda Station on 021 462 1550 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
