A five-car collision on the N40 hit motorists with significant tailbacks yesterday evening.
A three-car collision on the eastbound approach to Douglas West caused significant congestion on the South Ring Road, with a two-car accident immediately behind this effectively turning the situation into a five-car pile-up according to gardaí.
While no injuries were reported, gardaí said motorists slowing down to look at the accident caused significant tailbacks and increased the risk of further accidents. There was also a high volume of traffic on the road due to the ongoing bus strike.
Later on in the evening, motorists in the area reported a Christmas tree on the road, with garda sources indicating that some drivers were swerving to avoid it.
