Cork heroes Peter and Rory honoured for saving their grandmother from a fire
Nine-year-old Cork brothers Peter and Rory O'Connor were honoured with a Scouting Ireland Bravery Award for their actions in saving their grandmother from a fire in her home.

TWO nine-year-old Mallow brothers have been recognised for their bravery by Scouting Ireland after they saved their grandmother from a house fire.

Peter and Rory O’Connor, aged 9, who are members of the 44th Mallow Cub Scouts Group, received a Scouting Ireland Honour Award.

On the day of the incident, both boys were at home with their older sister and grandmother when a fire broke out.

Peter and Rory decided it was up to them to get everyone out of the house. They immediately contacted their parents while aiding their sister and grandmother out of the house.

Having completed the Emergency Adventure Skill Level 1 as part of their training in Mallow Cub Scouts, both Peter and Rory displayed great confidence in bravery in the face of immediate danger.

Chief Scout Christy McCann said: “The Youth Achievement Awards acknowledge our youth members who have risen to the challenge of voluntarily committing to doing something worthwhile and life-enhancing for themselves, the environment and the community."
