BLARNEY Street residents were due to meet with the developers behind plans for 200 new apartments in Sunday's Well today.
Locals have expressed fears about traffic and the height of the proposed buildings, which are earmarked for the site of the former Good Shepherd convent in Sunday's Well.
Members of the Blarney Street Residents' Association were set to meet with officials from Moneda Developments, the Dundalk-based firm behind the project, this morning to discuss the plans.
The group had previously called for a reduction in the height of the proposed buildings.
Other residents in Sunday's Well had expressed concern about the volume of traffic that would be added to the already-busy roads in the area if more than 200 new apartments were built.
There have been concerns about the lack of a traffic management plan and the small number of parking spaces - 200 spaces for 234 apartments.
Chair of the Blarney Street residents' association, Tom Coleman, said the group is supporting the development, but they have some concerns.
"We are all for the development but what seems to have been overlooked is how much this will effect residents in Blarney Street.
"The buildings are coming right back to the border walls at the end of some of our gardens and they are quite high in some cases."
Moneda have moved to address fears about height by reducing the planned height for several of the buildings.
None will now exceed the height of the existing protected structures on the land.
Mr Coleman welcomed the concession, but said it is still essential that residents meet with the developers.
"We are adamant about our demands - we are the ones who will have to live with for the rest of our lives.
"We will meet with the developers and see what they have to say before reverting back to the community with a public meeting."
In a bid to solve the concerns of residents, Moneda have also increased the number of cycle spaces to encourage sustainable transport.
It is understood that a planning application is due to be lodged in the coming weeks.
