Packie Bonner helps launch Cork's Sports Ability Week

Italia '90 soccer hero Packie Bonner officially opened Cork Sports Ability Week at the Mardyke Arena at UCC.

all this week, there will be demonstrations, 'come and try sessions' and information stands for people with disabilities and their parents, teachers, sports coaches and youth club leaders.

The event is run by the Cork Sports Partnership and is sponsored by Blackwater Motors Volkswagen.

“People can come and try out and see what's available to them because a lot of people don't know what's out there that they can get involved in,” said Orla Keane, who is helping to promote the event.

“I know of people who came two years ago and their son got involved in soccer and sailing through this initiative. It's a brilliant week for kids and adults who have disabilities,” she added.

The schedule runs until April 2 around the city and county and all events are open to the public to attend.

Wheelchair Rugby, table tennis, archery, badminton, seated volleyball, powerchair football, wall climbing are all included.
