HEINEKEN'S Master Brewer Willem van Waesberghe visited the company's Cork brewery at Lady's Well recently.

As Global Craft and Brew Master, Willem is in charge of 160 affiliated brewing sites worldwide including Cork and is responsible for the quality and craftsmanship of Heineken beer.

He has also become the face of the brand starring alongside Hollywood superstar Benicio Del Toro in television ads for the brand.

Going back 160 years in Cork through the Murphy's and Beamish stouts, Heineken currently employs more than 400 people in Ireland.

“Having toured many countries, Ireland has been top of my list for quite some time now," Willem said.

"A top performing market for us globally, I’m delighted to meet with the local team again. My trip to the Cork brewery really met all my expectations – the Irish hospitality really is as world-class as its reputation suggests."

Willem completed a three-day tour of Ireland, which also took in two days in Dublin prior to his trip to Cork.

The son of a brewmaster, Willem studied geology and then undertook 15 years training to become a master brewer.

PJ Tierney Heineken Brewery Operations Manager in Cork said they were delighted to have the opportunity for him to visit the brewery.

"It’s not often you get the chance to have the global Heineken Master Brewer in your brewery. We are very proud of our brewing tradition in Cork and it was great for the team to have a meet and greet with Willem and for him to see the great work that happens here in Lady’s Well Brewery.”
