IF you're in the city on Friday evening you should consider taking a stroll around the Victorian Quarter to get a taste of what the area has to offer.

Traders in MacCurtain street and the surrounding neighbourhood north of the Lee are setting up outside their premises from 5pm - 7pm in an event called ‘Sample Our Street’, so passersby can try their treats without even having to step foot indoors.

The Cask team are bringing team members to the street to host their take on a ‘Lemonade Stand’. They also have a surprise planned and promise it will be worth having camera phones at the ready.

The Shelbourne Bar will be serving complimentary bacon & cheese burgers from 6pm while a pop-up gin bar showcases Black’s Gin served with fresh grapefruit and Schweppes tonic.

If pizza is more your thing, Novecento are offering complimentary slices of pizza to passersby while Gallaghers Gastro Pub are targeting those with a sweet tooth.

There are plenty of other businesses in the area involved, including The Fish Wife, and even the weather is conspiring to help make the event a success, with rain forecast to stay away for the duration.

The Everyman Theatre are joining in with a ‘buy one get one free offer’ on tickets to Dancing at Lughnasa, if bought before midnight Sunday.

‘Sample Our Street’ is running as part of Cork’s monthly Feelgood Friday, when Cork Business Association, Cork Chamber, Cork City Council and businesses come together to show off the best the city has to offer. So if you are elsewhere in the city there is also plenty to do.

The Kilkenny Shop is holding an outdoor yoga class on astroturf on Emmet Place with complimentary light refreshments afterwards from Perry Street Market Café.

Leader Menswear, Lee Travel and the Mardyke Complex are all taking part while Arthur Mayne’s, BDSM and Costigan’s are on hand to get the weekend started. The Ambassador Hotel, Montenotte Hotel and Imperial Hotel all have special treats ready for visitors.

The Triskel get Feelgood Friday underway early, with a classical lunchtime concert, followed by free admission to their afternoon exhibition.
