THE eye-catching mural at Singer’s Corner will stay where it is for yet another year.

The mural’s creator Johnny Bugler yesterday confirmed that his mural, which was initially only meant to stay in place for a year - would remain covering the iconic building’s wall until at least July 2018.

His Facebook post read: “I'm delighted to announce that the artwork on Singer's Corner will remain in place for another year.

“The painting finish is holding up really well.

“Thanks to my painting crew! And thanks to Cork Printmakers, City Council Arts and Planning departments and building owner.” The yellow and black floral design was initially unveiled in September 2014. In 2016 €10,000 was set aside from the City Centre Action Plan to have it painted over, but a reprieve was granted and the artwork was saved for another year. It’s future was again up for discussion recently but a decision was made to keep the mural in place.

Cork city Council yesterday tweeted that it was “delighted to be involved with supporting the brilliant artwork by Johnny Bugler on Singer's Corner for another year.
