Man stabbed in the eye in Cork pub

GARDAÍ in Cork have appealed for witnesses to help further their investigation into a serious assault where a man was stabbed in the eye.

The incident occurred at the Chimes Bar, between Shandon Street and Shandon (St Anne’s) Church.

Gardaí say that there was an earlier incident, where a patron was asked to leave the premises. The man left, but returned some time later, around 10pm, and assaulted a person in the pub. The victim was stabbed in the eye by a sharp object and lost his sight in one eye.

Supt Mick Comyns asked anyone who was in the area on April 16, Easter Sunday, who has not yet spoken with the gardaí in relation to this incident, to make contact.

“If anyone can recall someone running away in a panic, or perhaps throwing something away, please come forward and speak to a member of the force,” he said.

Any person who can assist with this investigation is asked to contact Watercourse Road Garda Station on 021-4558260, the Garda Confidential Line 1 800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
