A celebration of 30 years of quality sexual health services offered by the Sexual Health Centre is being held at the Crane Lane on Thursday 17 August.
The event will be headlined by Jack O’Rourke, along with Karen Underwood, Marlene Enright and St Caoilian.
The event is to raise awareness of the availability of the services and also to raise funds for the centre.
CEO of the centre Deirdre Seery said they are celebrating the advancement of the services to make them more accessible and convenient.
“It has become so much easier to test people.” Ms Seery said although it is now easier than ever to get tested people are often still worried about getting checked.
“People often don’t tell others they have been to the centre, so we are trying to promote the services and make people more aware that they are here and also that it is completely normal to use them.” Deirdre said the centre is very busy all year round, but holidays are a particularly dangerous time period for people as more people engage in sexual activities abroad than at home.
“It is always worth mentioning that condoms are the best protection against HIV and aids and alcohol is a big factor in having unprotected sex.”
