Residential estates in Carrigtwohill, Midleton, Cobh and Youghal have all been targeted in what Gardaí say is a mix of travelling criminals from Dublin and thieves from Cork city.
There have also been a number of incidents in Watergrasshill and the wider Fermoy area in recent months.
A Garda source said in some cases the burglaries are taking place when people are out at Mass.
The Dublin gangs have been hitting a number of properties in a single day before returning back to the capital on the motorway.
“There are a number of different individuals and groups involved in these burglaries,” a Garda source said.
“There is no set pattern to the behaviour. There might be four or five in a morning and then nothing for several days. It is very difficult to track.”
The Garda source said that a number of the burglaries occurred during the day when houses are unoccupied.
“There is a 25% increase in residential burglaries during the winter and 5pm-11pm is the most common time for these burglaries to occur.”
The Garda spokesperson advised: “Turn on lights, lock doors, store keys away from windows and doors and don’t keep large amounts of cash or jewellery in your home.”
