Gardaí seek hit-and-run assistance

GARDAÍ are seeking the public's assistance following a hit-and-run in which a 15-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle in Cobh.

Superintendent Eamonn O’Neill said the young girl was lucky to survive the incident.

“We are treating it as a very serious incident and we would appeal to the public that anyone out there with any information would come forward," he said.

“This lady, while she is not critically ill, she had received serious facial injuries and it will take some work and some time to get her back to full health.”

Supt O’Neill said there would be some damage on the person’s car that would be evident to others.

“There was an impact with a female in Cobh, there should be someone who returned home last night with damage to their cars or there may be a garage out there who may have taken in a car this morning with similar to a hit and run.”

Supt O’Neill stressed that any piece of information could be vital and anyone who may have seen or heard something should call their local Garda station, where their call will be taken.

“We would like anyone who would have any information to ring Cobh Gardaí confidentially or Midleton, wherever their local Garda station is or the Garda Confidential Line and impart that information.”

The incident occurred at the top of Laundry Hill in Cobh.
