Man in his 70s dies in crash near Riverstick

AN elderly man has lost his life in a fatal collision between a car and a bus that took place last night near Riverstick, Kinsale.

The driver of the car, a man in his seventies, was fatally injured in the accident on the R600 at Ballinacourty, Belgooly at 9:55 pm on Monday.

The man, who was the sole occupant of the car, was later pronounced dead at the scene.

No injuries were reported from occupants of the bus.

The remains of deceased were then removed to Cork University Hospital (CUH) where a post-mortem examination will take place.

Two units of the Fire Brigade from Carrigaline and Kinsale attended the scene for just over two hours.

Roads remained closed between Coolcorran, Riverstick and Lybe, Belgooly this morning as gardaí carried out forensic examinations and local diversions were in place.
