A STOLEN SUV took off on a chaotic tirade across North Cork on Wednesday evening, crashing into several vehicles and injuring three people, before two suspects attempted to flee the scene on foot near Newtwopothouse.

These two suspects were apprehended by Gardaí in a field close to where the crashed SUV was abandoned and detained at Mallow Garda Station.

Three people were taken to Cork University Hospital with minor injuries.

The suspects, a man in his 20s and a man in his 30s, are being kept at Mallow Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

At present Gardaí are seeking witnesses to come forward to provide them with additional information surrounding the incident in order to strengthen their understanding of the situation.

The stolen SUV has been traced back to a farm in Banogue, Co. Limerick.

A Garda spokesperson said it was being treated as a very serious incident and anyone with information is asked to come forward.

“Anyone who feels they have information to contribute to our investigation is asked to contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111."
