GARDAÍ are warning beachgoers that their cars could be towed if parked illegally on the approach to Inchydoney beach this weekend.
A tow truck has been engaged for use by gardaí in a bid to avoid gridlock on the roadway to the popular beach today and tomorrow.
A garda spokesman said that there was traffic mayhem in the area last weekend, leading to several complaints to gardaí by frustrated motorists.
In one incident, a lorry could not get through because a car had not parked close enough to the verge.
The spokesman said: “Gardaí are asking people to park responsibly as emergency vehicles would not be able to pass. A lorry could not pass through last weekend and there was absolute gridlock.”
Large crowds are expected at beaches across the country over the weekend, as the heatwave continues.
According to Met Éireann, temperatures could reach mid-to-high 20s in some areas.
The hot spell is to continue throughout next week, with Irish Water urging people to conserve water and obey the nationwide hosepipe ban.
