Up to 50,000 people were in Cork city centre for the annual St Patrick's Day parade as thousands more attended similar events around the county.

The bumper St Patrick’s Day festivities also saw Ireland win a Rugby Grand SLam while Nemo Rangers were disappointed to miss out on an All Ireland football title in Croke Park.

Cork Business Association (CBA) President Philip Gillivan said all the hotels in the city were booked out.

“I think there is going to be a lot of activity around the city for the weekend,” Mr Gillivan added.

The CBA president said that the pubs were also expecting a big weekend.
