THE Rory Gallagher Music Library is celebrating 40 years of service to the music-loving public of Cork this week with an homage to its namesake.
This year also marks the 70th anniversary of Rory’s birth, giving twice as much reason to celebrate.
A new exhibition of memorabilia from the family collection of the internationally renowned musician, who honed his craft in Cork, will be on display in the City Library from July 5 to August 31.
The exhibition launches tomorrow, Thursday, at 7pm, with a special concert from Belgian guitar virtuoso Jacques Stotzem marking the occasion.
He will perform a selection of Rory’s songs on the night. In ‘To Rory’, an acoustic tribute to Gallagher, Stotzem recalls his guitar hero’s dynamic playing and, as he says, “unmatched musicality” by presenting the music on solo acoustic guitar.
This is free event, everyone is welcome.
