IMAGES of people queuing to view a rental property on MacCurtain Street capture the “desperation” of those searching for a home in the current housing crisis.
The photo, which was posted on the Victorian Quarter Twitter page, showed people waiting outside a building on the northside of the city to view a rental property.
Southern Regional Manager of housing charity Threshold, Edel Conlon said: “This photograph captures the desperation in the rental market.”
Ms Conlon said the hunt for a home can be a daunting challenge for many and those on Housing Assistance Payment are the ones who feel it most.
“Seeking accommodation is now a huge challenge and for those on a Housing Assistance Payment (HAP), it’s hard to compete with those that have a month’s deposit and a month’s rent in advance.
“There is a serious lack of rental properties across Cork.”
