McCurtain Street Hoteliers Ltd had sought permission to build the hotel at the site known as ‘The Windsor Inn’, 54-55 MacCurtain Street, on the corner of MacCurtain Street and York Street.

The proposed development will comprise of the part demolition of the existing structures, the construction of a hotel up to eight storeys in height over a basement hotel and a bar facility on the ground floor with an external courtyard.

Last month, city planners have given the go-ahead for the hotel. However, that decision has now been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.

It is one of a number of major developments planned for the area with others including the proposed revamp of the Metropole hotel.

The €50 million proposal was last week approved by city planners and will see the construction of a new, boutique hotel on the quayside as well as an increase in the number of beds in the existing hotel.
