ONE lucky lotto player woke up this morning a millionaire having scooped the top prize in the one-off EuroMillionaire Raffle.
The draw created 25 new millionaires in nine countries, with one of the winning tickets sold at Easons in Wilton Shopping Centre.
Staff at the shop have already started speculating about the new millionaire, with hopes high that it is one of their regular customers.
Martina Walsh, manager of the Easons store, said, "It’s amazing news to know that one of our customers is waking up this morning as a millionaire! Just last August, we sold a winning EuroMillions ticket worth over €250,000 so you could definitely say we’re a lucky EuroMillions shop for our customers.
"All of the staff here today are absolutely buzzing. It’s very much a local shop in the heart of Cork City so we hope that it’s a local winner and we’ll certainly be reminding everybody we see today to check their tickets."
The winning ticket was just part of a record result for Irish players in last night's game. Four Irish players claimed the top prize of €500,000 in the EuroMillions Plus raffle, with 144,000 people winning prizes nationwide.
The jackpot of €177 million will be shared by two winners in Spain and the UK.
Meanwhile, another group of Cork winners kicked off their weekend in style by claiming almost €75,000.
An 11-strong syndicate from Johnson & Johnson matched 5 number plus a bonus in the Lotto draw to win a prize of €74,632.
The lucky 11 bought their ticket in the Topaz Service Station on Commons Road in Blackpool.
The leader of the lucky syndicate which have been dubbed ‘Tracy’s Lucky 11”, Tracy Keating, spoke of the excitement in work following their Lotto win.
"It’s not a life-changing amount of money when split eleven ways but it’s been a great experience to get to the famous winners' room and to do that with a group of good friends makes the experience even sweeter! Ever since we checked the ticket that Saturday night, there has been great excitement and banter in work so we’ll enjoy the weekend together and start spending the money properly next week,” she laughed.
