GARDAÍ have arrested a man in his 20s following a robbery and alleged assault at South Mall at 4am this morning.
A man in his 40s has been treated at Cork University Hospital for injuries sustained in the incident.
The footpath between Parliament Bridge and Electric Bar was cordoned off early this morning as Garda Crime Scene examiners gathered evidence.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Shortly after 4am, a man in his 40s called to Anglesea Street Garda Station and alleged he had been assaulted and robbed at South Mall."
"A small amount of cash was taken in the robbery. The man was taken to Cork University Hospital to be treated for his injuries. Investigating gardaí arrested a man in his 20s in a follow-up operation."
The man is detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Bridewell Street Garda Station.
