GARDAÍ are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault of two men who are believed to have been attacked while attempting to burgle a house.
Gardaí in Gurranabraher are investigating the incident in which two males were seriously injured at 9pm yesterday.
It is understood the two men were burgling a house at the time. There are reports that they were seen forcing entry into a house and later were attacked outside the house.
The incident occurred in the Churchfield area.
The two injured males were taken to CUH where their injuries are described as non-life threatening.
Local Sinn Féin councillor Thomas Gould said it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.
“I don’t want to see anyone hurt and I don’t condone this type of behaviour, but the amount of break-ins across the city is colossal. It was only a matter of time before people reacted like this.
“I don’t condone attacks on people, but you can’t blame people who are fearing for their lives and for the lives of their families.”
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Gurranabraher Garda Station on 021 4946200.
