Man in 40s dies in fire as Dunmanway farmhouse gutted

A MAN in his 40s died in a house fire near Dunmanway yesterday.

The alarm was raised at approximately 10.30am Sunday morning.

The house is located in a remote area of Shanagh, approximately 7km north east of Dunmanway.

Firefighters from Clonakilty and Dunmanway were called to the scene to tackle the blaze which gutted the farmhouse.

The sole occupant was located in an upstairs bedroom and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A full technical examination of the scene was carried out, but gardaí are not treating the incident as suspicious.

Gardaí will prepare a file for the coroner’s court and urged anyone with information to contact Clonakilty Garda Station on (023) 8821570.
