A PLAN to drastically reduce travel times in Little Island will be the subject of a public consultation exhibition tomorrow.

The Little Island Traffic and Transportation Study contains recommendations on transport interventions to improve access to the island and improve public transport links.

Engineering consultants Barry Transport in association with urban and rail engineering consultants SYSTRA were commisioned to assist in carrying out the study and both firms will have representatives available to speak with members of the public at the Radisson Blu Hotel at Little Island between 3pm and 8pm.

The transport strategy plans to cut journey times by as much as 43% and include re-routing Bus Éireann services from the east into the city via Little Island and introducing bus priority measures to enhance journey times in a clockwise direction within Little Island – as well as a new train station and park-and-ride in the Dunkettle area.

The study rules out a third entrance and exit to the island which has been the subject of criticism by local representatives.

The final study is to be published before the year's end.
