New Cork gift card to be launched ahead of Christmas shopping season
The new Cork Gift Card

THE will be no excuse for not shopping locally during the upcoming festive season, with a special Cork gift card set to be launched early next month.

Cork Chamber hope the Cork gift card, which is being operated by One4All, will be a popular choice for local companies giving out bonuses and gifts in the run-up to Christmas.

“It runs under the One4All scheme but the key difference is that this card can only be spent in the Cork region,” Annie FitzGibbon, Business Development Manager of Cork Chamber said. “It is an ideal way to support the Cork economy and keep money in the local area, supporting local businesses and jobs.”

More than one hundred businesses have already signed up to accept the card.

“The reaction has been really positive, we have had members coming directly to us, asking to sign up,” Ms FitzGibbon said.

The card, featuring the Echo Boy statue, will be accepted in a range of businesses around the city and county.

“We have retailers like Brown Thomas, who said they were delighted to get involved, and lots of our member hotels are also involved and local retailers like Fitzgerald Menswear,” Ms FitzGibbon said.

“Ballymaloe House is also taking part.

“There is going to be a huge range of choice so users won’t feel restricted at all.”

There has also been considerable interest from potential card purchasers, with several of the Cork Chamber’s large corporate members interested in getting the cards for their staff between now and Christmas.

The card is not just aimed at businesses, individuals will also be able to purchase cards at approximately 10 post points around Cork and it will also be available to purchase online.

Cork Chamber will formally launch the card on Monday, November 5.
