Former Lord Mayor presents charities with cheques after raising more than €50,000 during term

FORMER Lord Mayor Cllr Tony Fitzgerald and former Lady Mayoress Georgina Fitzgerald have thanked the people of Cork for their kind support to their four main charity events held during their term of office.

With family and friends and with great support from the Cork City Council staff, and the people of Cork more than €52,000 was raised and donated to various charities.

Cllr Fitzgerald stated that the coffee morning, organised by the Lady Mayoress, raised €9,000 and three additional events, including the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Concert, St. Patrick’s Weekend Lord Mayor’s Ball and at the end of the term the Lord Mayor’s Golf Classic was very successful.

At a function at City Hall presentations were made to Daly Industrial Ltd, winners of the golf classic which included Mick Lordan, Mick O’Regan and Micke Lade. The golf tournament was sponsored by John Buckley Sports and held at Mahon Golf Club. The Inter Services Competition was won by the Defence Forces and Martin Drohan, Gordon FitzgeraldTomas Collins were on hand to collect trophy.

Cllr Fitzgerald stated that we are extremely grateful to the Evening Echo, media sponsors, and to all for the sponsorship and the funds raised which will help very worthwhile charities.
