INFILL housing has been proposed for a site at Cushing Place, in Farranree, that has been plagued by illegal dumping.
Local Sinn Féin councillor Ken Collins has submitted a motion to City Hall, looking for a number of houses to be built on a plot of land neighbouring Cushing Place and Cushing Road estates.
Mr Collins said this would help tackle the housing crisis and prevent anti-social behaviour and dumping.
“I think, if this is done right, with engagement and consultation with local residents, this could be a valuable addition to the area,” he said.
Member of the Cushing Residents’ Association Sharlene Lynch said that illegal dumping was a problem in the area and that the council were out daily taking away bags of rubbish.
“There are black bags of waste piled in the area daily and the council are kept going taking it away.”
Ms Lynch said the residents’ association held a meeting recently, regarding the proposal, and they received a very positive reaction.
“I think it would make a difference to the area. We are having another meeting soon to discuss it further.”
