CORK tourism brands have been showing what they have to offer at the world's largest travel fair.
Spike Island, Jameson Distillery Midleton and the Celtic Ross Hotel in Rosscarbery are among 70 Irish tourism businesses representing themselves at the World Travel Market in London.
During the three-day travel fair, the Irish companies have been engaging in thousands of meetings with British and international tour operators – to negotiate contracts for 2019 with Irish businesses looking to get a slice of the €3.5bn worth of business done at the fair.
The latest Central Statistics Office figures indicate that 2018 will be a record year for Irish tourism, with more than 8.2m people arriving during the January to September period – an increase of extra overseas visitors, compared to 2017.
Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: Since the UK referendum on Brexit, Tourism Ireland has been closely monitoring developments in the British outbound travel market.
“In 2019, we will continue to work with our industry partners to highlight the ease of getting to the island of Ireland, with almost 238,000 seats by air and 46,000 car spaces on ferries from Britain every week”.
