A NEW 136-bed hotel to be based at Horgan’s Quay is to be known as ‘The Dean’ and will be operated by Oakmount — whose portfolio includes numerous hotels and properties in Dublin.
The confirmation paves the way for work to get underway on one of the most ambitious development projects undertaken in the city.
HQ Developments Ltd, who are behind the project — which will include residential, office, hotel and retail space over 5,080 square metres — has reached an agreement with Oakmount to operate the hotel once construction is complete.
The development is adjacent to Kent Station and will include 230 apartments, almost 37,000 sqm of office space and 2,285 sqm of retail and restaurant space on a 6.1-acre site.
The hotel is expected to have 136-bed spaces with a rooftop garden.
HQ Developments Limited is a joint company involving both Clarendon Properties and BAM Ireland.
The €160m development was the subject of objections by a resident’s association on the Lower Glanmire Road and the Port of Cork Company (POCC), however, the Port later dropped its objection saying it was now satisfied with the information provided by the developer.
It is likely to take two years for the hotel to be built and three to four years for the entire site to be developed.
The developers were asked by City Council’s planning department last November to address issues in relation to roads and transportation, waste management, drainage and water main layouts before giving the green light.
The office, retail and residential project will sit on 6.1 acres and will include three office blocks that will accommodate 5,000 workers. Plans for the site also include open public spaces.
