YOUR 50-day countdown to Christmas starts here...
One of the first signs of the looming festive season will hit the shops this week when the 2018 Holly Bough goes on sale. The publication has become an institution for Corkonians since it was founded 121 years ago, in 1897.
The front page is a beautiful piece of artwork by Jill Cotter, showing a festive Patrick Street, including the Tree of Remembrance beside Brown Thomas. The edition is packed with 164 pages of historical articles and photos, including the story of a terrible Christmas Eve tragedy at a haunted Cork city house, the tale of a Corkman who saved a sultan’s life in war-torn Africa, and the revelation that the daughter of a Cork Protestant bishop was jilted at the altar by a future Pope!
There is a food and drink section, puzzles for the kids, a bumper sports section, and Diffney Quiz and prize crossword. Snap up your copy.
