Kayak club shocked and saddened at sudden death of Brita
Brita Waters, who lived in Maryborough, Cork, who died in a kayaking accident in Kerry on Sunday.

THE Douglas-based woman who died in a tragic kayaking incident in Kerry on Sunday has been named as Brita Waters, originally from Dublin.

Ms Waters, a social worker, had been kayaking on the Roughty River with her partner Martin and three friends when she became separated from the group.

Douglas-based councillor Joe Harris (SD) said the passing of Ms Waters was very sad for the community and he expressed his condolences to her family and friends.

In the kayaking community, the West Cork Kayakers club said it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the incident, while a friend of Ms Waters described her as “one in a million” who had a “brilliant smile”.

The results of an autopsy at University Hospital Tralee will be sent to the coroner’s court.

Her body will repose at the Kiely Funeral Home in Dungarvan tomorrow from 5pm with removal on Thursday at 10.15am before Mass at St Augustine’s Church, Abbeyside.
