Cork Airport has recorded a strong start to 2019 with passenger numbers up 9% on January 2018.

Flights to continental Europe saw particularly strong growth in January, up 22% on 2018.

Niall MacCarthy, Managing Director at Cork Airport said they were delighted with the strong start to 2019.

"We are planning for this year to be another year of strong growth at Cork Airport, despite the perils of a looming Brexit.”

“Over 50 routes are now on offer from Cork Airport across the UK, Continental Europe and the east coast of the USA this year and we are committed to continuing this growth throughout 2019,” he added.

Flight stats from the Irish Aviation Authority show the number of flights handled at Cork Airport last year increased by 3.8%.

For all of 2018, 2.4 million passengers used the airport.

Speaking in November, Niall MacCarthy, managing director at Cork Airport said they forecast 2.6 million passengers to travel through Cork Airport in 2019, a 7% increase on last year.

“We will deliver our fourth consecutive year of growth in 2019 with a further increase of 7%.”
