A PASSENGER who decided to drive after the driver was nabbed for drink driving also got caught for being over the limit.

The Cork drivers were breathalysed this week as gardaí clamp down on drivers who have alcohol in their system the morning after a night out.

Gardai are not revealing the location of the incident but said it occurred in Cork city at a time when commuters were travelling to work.

The two were taken to a garda station for further tests and a file will be prepared for the DPP.

The Road Safety Authority has conducted analysis of garda files on fatal collisions throughout the country. The analysis found that in 11% of fatal collisions between 7am and 11am, there was alcohol in the driver's system.

As a result, driving the morning after a night out is the main focus of the garda drink driving campaign in the run up to Christmas and the New Year.
