THE millionth trip taken on Cork Coke Zero bike scheme was celebrated by giving the lucky cyclist his very own red and black bike.

John Lehane, from Berrings, was the lucky person who took one of the bikes on its millionth trip.

Three other bike users, Shane Stewart, Alan Healy and Caoimhe Moloney, also received a new bike after being selected at random from the database of users.

The Coke bike scheme in Cork is said to be a phenomenal success and an extension of the scheme is currently being looked at by the National Transport Authority (NTA).

The NTA said they were “actively exploring with the city council” the idea of an expansion of the bike-sharing scheme.
