A WOMAN in her 50s is fighting for her life in hospital after taken from a house fire in Blarney early this morning.

Fire crews and ambulance services were called to the scene of a house fire at Willison Meadow - just off the main road linking Blarney village with Tower- after they were alerted to an incident shortly after 6.30am.

It's understood the woman was in the house alone and the alarm was raised by neighbours. 

She was rushed to Cork University Hospital in a serious condition. 

A spokesperson for Munster Fire Control said: “We have been alerted to a house fire at 51 Willison Meadow, Blarney this morning. We received the call at 6.32am. Fire Brigade units from Ballyvolane and Ballincollig are at the scene and the situation is ongoing.” 

Gardaí and ambulance crews remained at the scene this morning just off St Anne's Road.
