CORK woke up to a blanket of snow this morning with more cold and icy conditions expected over the next few days.
Heavy snow last night contributed to road traffic collisions in Fermoy, Cobh, Bandon and on the N25 between Midleton and Carrigtwohill.
Gardaí at Anglesea Street said they dealt with a number of minor road collision incidents overnight in the city.
A number of schools were also affected by the conditions.
St Vincent’s primary school, Blarney Street CBS, Scoil Aiséirí Chríost, Scoil Íosagáin Farranree, Gaelscoil Pheig Sayers, Greenmount Monastery National School and St Mary’s on the Hill National School all delayed opening until 10.30am.
Met Éireann is forecasting that it will be cold and frosty tonight with temperatures as low as -4c. Further sleet and snow is expected on Thursday.
