GARDAI are continuing to investigate an attack on two teenagers in a Cork city suburb earlier this week.
The 14 and 15 year old boys were walking home from school on Tuesday afternoon when they were set upon by a group of youths.
The boys' mother claimed the incident occurred after a group of five older teens made fun of one of the boys' Afro-style hair. She said the boys had been taking a shortcut to the Old Youghal Road when the attack happened and added that her sons had wounds to their heads as a result. Passers-by went to the aid of the boys.
She believed the attack was racist in motivation. “I believe the boys were targeted because of their colour and appearance," she told 96FM.
Superintendent Michael Comyns appealed for witnesses to the incident to contact Mayfield gardaí on (021) 4558510 but said they do not believe there was a racist motivation in the incident.
