MASSIVE steps have been taken regarding the revamp of the northside of the city docks, with progress already being made on the €125 million Penrose Dock office development and the €160 million hotel, office and residential HQ development.
Clearance work is already underway on both sites, which are located on lands next to Kent station.
Developers have suggested that the buildings will be complete and ready for use in less than 18 months.
Plans for the Penrose Quay site include a 250,000 square ft open plan office scheme, a 12,500 square ft state of the art gymnasium, a proposed wine bar/coffee shop, 160 basement car spaces and a large townhall space.
Cork-based construction company PJ Hegarty’s are the main building contractor for the JCD Group development and workers have been on site since October. Hoardings around the development promise the ‘next generation’ office space will be ready for companies to move in by May 2020.
The historic 12,000 square ft Penrose House will be refurbished at the same time. It is just one of a number of projects set to transform the area, with work also underway on the Horgan’s Quay development. That project will include a hotel, 230 apartments, almost 37,000 sq m of office space and 2,285 sq m of retail and restaurant space on a 6.1 acre site.
