Colette O’Hagan, from Dundalk, will be among the entrants for the Waterfront Marathon.
A 69-year-old woman, who is aiming to complete her 600th marathon, will be among the 2,200 runners in Clonakilty on Saturday.
Colette O’Hagan, from Dundalk, will be among the entrants for the Waterfront Marathon.
Striving to complete a Guinness World Record will be Donal Young, a member of the Irish Navy and Courtmacsherry Rowing Club, who is attempting to break the record of one hour 27 minutes for a half-marathon while wearing a regulation military gas mask. Donal is fundraising for a new clubhouse for the Courtmacsherry Rowing club.
This year’s marathon coincides with the annual festive shopping day in Clonakilty, so the town will be buzzing. Marathon organiser, Bobby Hilliard, said that the feelgood atmosphere has become a special part of the day.
“Share words of encouragement, smiles, and thumbs-up with your fellow runners, marshalls and supporters,” he said.
“In the words of our good friend, Amby Burfoot: ‘every mile is a gift’. Enjoy each one we are privileged to be able to run.”
