CORK County Council is warning people that bogus callers are calling to homes in west Cork claiming to be from the local authority.

The county council has notified gardaí about the incidents.

The callers have asked homeowners for money to complete works to their homes, claiming to be from the county council.

A spokesman for the county council said: "Cork County Council wishes to advise that ALL Council employees, or Contractors working on behalf of the Council, will produce ID, will NEVER ask for money and will always contact a tenant before calling to the property."
