The father of a Cork toddler struck by a car in a hit and run incident off the Skehard Road yesterday said he hopes those responsible for the incident "rot in hell".

Paul Higgins, father of three-year-old Zac said he spent the longest four hours of his life with his wife Aishling in the CUH yesterday before he was transferred by ambulance to Temple Street hospital in Dublin.

Zac was struck by a car at Castle Meadows, off Skehard Road shortly after 4pm. The car involved left the scene.

In a Facebook post in the early hours of this morning, Paul said: "I would like to thank everyone who sent well wishes today"

"After the longest 4 hours in the CUH our little warrior hit the road to Dublin by ambulance. He will love that when he wakes to hear it."

"He arrived at Temple Street hospital straight for CT scan which showed good results so far.

"To see your child that way is the worst feeling I ever had in my life today."

"Special thanks to all our friends in Castle Meadows who went above and beyond."

"Please anyone with any information please contact guards ASAP."
