TWO men have been arrested in connection with the theft of outboard engines in Kinsale.

The incident occurred at roughly 9.30pm on February 18 when a member of the public spotted two men acting suspiciously at the water’s edge in the Scilly area.

The men fled but left behind a dinghy, which had three outboard engines on it. When gardaí responded to the incident, they discovered that attempts had also been made to steal two other outboard engines from two other boats.

The engines have since been returned to their owners.

This morning, two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, were arrested by gardaí investigating the thefts.

They were being held at Bandon Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
