SINGERS from Mayfield Men’s Shed, with a combined age of 1,110, will be bidding to impress the judges on Ireland’s Got Talent tonight.
The Men’s Shed choir will get the usual grilling when they step out on stage for the Virgin Media talent show.
They will reveal to the judges that they have an average age of 72 and a total age of 1,110.
Judge Michelle Visage asks how the Men’s Shed choir came to be, to which one member answers: “We had so many men in the shed, some of them started singing and it turned out we had musicians too and it took off from that.”
A movement that has quickly become popular amongst the older generation, Men’s Shed gives people a chance to stay active, meet new people, and discover new hobbies.
In the year and a half since forming a choir, Mayfield Men’s Shed has performed for the Lord Mayor of Cork and has previously sung in front of 500 people at Páirc Uí Chaoimh, in nursing homes, schools, churches, and at charity gigs.
Ireland’s Got Talent is on air at 7.30pm on Virgin Media.
