A GROUP of approximately 300 north Cork and Limerick students are getting used to internet fame, after a video they shared online became a massive hit.
The students of Coláiste Mhuire in Buttevant hosted a Big Sing event, and were joined by students of St Mary’s, Patrician Academy, and Davis College from Mallow, Coláiste Iósaef Kilmallock, McEgan College Macroom, and Coláiste Treasa Kanturk.
Well-known Cork vocalist Gemma Sugrue arranged and directed the students in an electric version of Hozier’s ‘Nina Cried Power’ and the clip has been seen close to 40,000 times since the school shared it on Facebook.
“A week later and we are still on a high,” Monica Flynn of Coláiste Mhuire said. “Seven secondary schools, 300 students, singing their hearts out — what a sound!
“Gemma’s arrangement of Hozier’s ‘Nina Cried Power’ was simply powerful, not to mention the incredible Mallow soloist Faith Omoro. She has to be heard to be believed!”
The students chose a great time to cover a Hozier track, as the Irish artist’s second album debuted at number one on the Billboard charts in recent days.
