Delay to train service after level crossing crash
The moment a lorry crashed through a level crossing, which delayed the Cork to Heuston service.

The Cork to Heuston train service was delayed temporarily after a truck drove through a level crossing, damaging the barrier.

Irish Rail took to Twitter earlier today to inform commuters that the 2 PM Heuston to Cork service and the 3:25 PM service from Cork to Heuston would be delayed by up to half an hour because of the incident.

Irish Rail shared CCTV footage of the incident, which shows the truck driving at speed, breaking through the barrier and carrying on.

The incident occurred at the level crossing in Emly, Co Tipperary.

An Irish Rail spokesperson labelled the incident as “extraordinarily reckless driving” and has told The Echo that they are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Gardaí.

They said: “We will liaise with Gardaí to ensure that the motorist is pursued and prosecuted and would urge anyone who witnessed to also contact Gardaí.”
