Water samples taken at Garryvoe Beach yesterday showed an increase in the levels of bacteria.

The likely cause of the pollution is suspected to be the area's wastewater infrastructure.

The swimming ban is expected to remain for three days and may be lifted on Friday afternoon.

More water samples were taken today with the results expected back on Friday.
