Man arrested after smashing makeup stand in Debenhams

A man believed to be in his 60s has been arrested by Gardaí after vandalising one of the makeup stands in Debenhams on Patrick’s Street.

The incident occurred at around 12.40pm this afternoon, where a male armed with a large hammer entered the premises and proceeded to use the hammer to smash one of the makeup stands.

Believed to be the Yves Saint Laurent makeup stand, it is now cordoned off while Gardaí investigated the incident.

One eye witness told The Echo that staff advised customers to move towards the exit or far end of the store. The man had a large hammer and proceeded to smash the glass cabinets without saying anything or threatening anyone.

When prompted by security to stop, the man calmly handed over the hammer and was taken away before Gardaí arrived to arrest the suspect.

Staff were visibly shaken but no one was injured in the attack.
