Monkstown choir celebrating another winning year
Cantate, just after competing in the Mixed Open competition at the 35th AIMS Choral Festival held in New Ross recently.

THE members of Monkstown-based choir Cantate are celebrating after a second winning year at the AIMS Choral Festival.

The ‘little choir with the big heart’ beat off stiff competition to retain its title from last year in the Mixed Open category at the festival, held recently in New Ross, Co Wexford.

The win means the Waterford International Festival of Light Opera Shield returns to Cork with them. There it joined the Feis Maitiu Lynch Memorial Perpetual Cup in the Cantate trophy cabinet, a tribute to a successful year.

“[We] participated in the recording of a CD, perform on RTÉ radio and TV (on the same day!) and visit Amsterdam over the St Patrick’s Bank Holiday weekend,” Cantate PRO Michele Boyle said. “Other highlights from the year included the choir’s ‘Karaoke Kapers’ fundraiser in Nemo Rangers in November and singing at founding member Marie Radley’s 60th birthday celebrations in December.

“Activities are winding down but plans are already in place for another lively and upbeat year beginning next September.”
