AWARD-winning actress Saoirse Ronan will bring some Hollywood glamour to west Cork next month when she attends the Fastnet Film Festival.
The festival will take place in Schull from May 22 to 26 and Ms Ronan’s attendance was announced at the launch.
The 25-year-old actress has won a host of accolades over the course of her career, including an Oscar nomination at the age of 13 for her part in Atonement. She has starred in a number of high-profile films including The Lovely Bones, Brooklyn, Lady Bird and, most recently, Mary Queen of Scots.
She is not the only big name who will be in attendance — Roddy Doyle is to host a script writer’s workshop and take part in a Q&A.
Academy Award winning film historian Kevin Brownlow wil screen his restored silent film Smouldering Fires and other guests announced were Paddy Breathnach, Carmel Winters, Moe Dunford, Sarah Greene, Jim Sheridan and many more. Also, featured at the festival will be in excess of 13 feature length films, 300 short film screenings and local interest films. Fringe events include the Long Island Cinema, Gallery Cinema, Filmmakers Hub, Drama, Fun Movie Quiz and café viewing all over town.
