A four-year-old child has been taken to hospital after sustaining serious injuries this afternoon when he was hit by a car.
The young boy was hit by the vehicle on Knockpogue Avenue, near Scoil Aiseiri Chríost in Farranree on the northside of the city.
The incident, which occurred at 2.45pm today, was attended by Gardaí and by Emergency Services.
The child was taken to Cork University Hospital with what are being described as serious injuries.
The road has been closed by Gardaí while a technical examination of the scene is taking place and diversions are currently in place.
